Skerries Annual Wild Bee Festival 2026

Join us in celebrating our pollinator pals with a weekend of walks, talks, workshops, storytelling, arts, crafts and family fun at Skerries Mills Community Garden.

The much-loved Skerries Annual Wild Bee Festival is back for 2026, taking place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June at Skerries Mills.

This year's festival programme includes a fantastic line-up of speakers, guided walks and hands-on activities, with something for everyone from curious beginners and families to gardeners, nature lovers and pollinator enthusiasts.

Cathal Copeland: Bird Walk

Cathal is a prominent local member of Birdwatch Ireland with extensive knowledge of Fingal's resident and migratory bird populations. His walks are always well received — find out where the birds are nesting this season.

Naomi Lavelle: Family Pollinator Science Workshop

Galway-based science communicator Naomi Lavelle designs and delivers live, hands-on science shows for children. Her “Bee Science” show invites children to explore the fascinating world of bees. Come along kids and bring your parents!

Sarah is the project manager for the All Ireland Pollinator Plan. She will explain the efforts being made at National and EU level to restore wild pollinator habitats and improve their connectivity across Europe.

Botanist Brian Seales leads a gentle walk around our newly established wildflower meadow to learn what plants are making a comeback now mowing has stopped.

Did you know that we have 21 species of bumblebee in Ireland? Skerries-based ecologist Kate Harrington will get you started on identifying them.

What to expect

Takes place outdoors for the most part at the site of our Community Garden — with stalls under marquees.

Accessible for buggies and wheelchairs with relatively even, gravelly ground.

Walks and talks are bookable and free. Donations are very welcome to support the garden.

The Mills Cafe offers full breakfast and lunch menus right on site.

Buy merchandise and support the community garden. Bike stands available for cyclists.

Rain or shine! The festival will go ahead regardless of the unpredictable Irish weather.
